Nicholas Lezard’s Quote on Atonement Essay

â€Å"†¦the novel is itself the demonstration of expiation that Briony Tallis needs to perform; yet we are particularly in the place where there is the inconsistent storyteller, where avoidance and deception both shadow and subvert the story that is told† (Nicholas Lezard). Examine this analysis of Atonement. At the point when one arrives at expiation, it implies that they feel pardoned, in any case whether they are really cleared for an offense or not. In Atonement, a novel of dramatization, war and sentiment, the creator Ian McEwan describes the fundamental character, Briony, as a conceited individual. McEwan’s epic is self-referential when it is inferred that the novel is one Briony wrote so as to arrive at compensation. Nicholas Lezard, pundit for the Guardian, says that Briony’s reparation and ‘the truth’ of her story is debilitated by Ian McEwan’s portrayal of her as an untrustworthy individual. Notwithstanding, some may contend that the novel Briony composed was a decent method to make up for her wrongdoing. Toward the finish of the McEwan’s epic, Briony shows that she accepts she had done as well as could be expected need to arrive at penance. When discussing the last draft of her novel she says â€Å"I’ve viewed it as my obligation to mask nothing †the names, the spots, the specific conditions †I put everything there as an issue of a chronicled record† (McEwan 349). This causes the peruser to accept she is by and large totally genuine. Moreover, Briony, being a notable distributed author at 77 years old, chooses to utilize her enthusiasm, her ability, to turn out to be a piece of her reparation. Despite the fact that Briony can’t distribute her novel until after the demise of Lola and Paul Marshall due to her dread of case just as the influence and riches the couple have and will use to ensure their names. â€Å"The Marshalls have been dynamic about the courts since the late forties, safeguarding their great names with a most costly ferocity† (McEwan 349). Her failure to do much else at this phase of her life causes perusers to feel compassion toward Briony and need to think everything that she professes to be valid. Therefore numerous perusers may well accept that Briony had done decently as well as could be expected need to arrive at reparation. Then again many may concur with Lezard and feel that Briony’s anecdotal cheerful closure of her story is a last endeavor to sidestep the blame she feels. Briony’s ailment and the way that she is biting the dust, accordingly distracts from her distress to calm her blame. â€Å"It is just in this last form my sweethearts end well, standing next to each other on a South London asphalt as I leave. All the previous drafts were pitiless† (McEwan 350). This makes the peruser question the amount a greater amount of what really happened was changed in Briony’s story. Briony even considers herself a â€Å"unreliable witness† (McEwan 338) of the occasions that happened which she at that point expounded on. This additionally sets the peruser in a place to not have any desire to believe anything Briony says. She likewise says that she gets a kick out of the chance to imagine that Robbie and Cecilia’s cheerful closure wasn’t â€Å"weakness or avoidance, yet a last demonstration of kindness† (McEwan 351), which repudiates to her case of having the novel distributed as a chronicled record, implementing to the peruser her conniving. These are a couple of the explanations behind which Briony can be viewed as a temperamental individual. Beside her edginess and lies because of her coming nearer to death, there are different manners by which McEwan describes Briony to be questionable and needing to in part maintain a strategic distance from fault for her carried out wrongdoing. Briony, the hero, kept in touch with her whole novel with an omniscient third individual storyteller, which thus separates Briony from the peruser and keeps some from noticing her offense. Another impact this has is that it proposes to the peruser that the occasions that happened precisely as they are portrayed, when that isn't the situation. Should the novel have been written in first individual from Briony’s perspective, the peruser would have considered Briony to be an egotistical and not trusted her story so without any problem. Briony on page 350 at that point obviously expresses that she made of part of her story when she says â€Å"When I am dead, and the Marshalls are dead, and the novel is at last distributed, we will just exist through my inventions† (McEwan). McEwan’s portrayal of her as a narcissistic and temperamental individual is predictable from when Briony is 13 years of age up to when she is 77. On page 336, Briony says â€Å"However shriveled, I despite everything feel myself to be the very same individual I’ve consistently been† (McEwan), which to the peruser connotes that Briony has not developed as an individual and still may figure as she did when she was a kid, committing similar errors without acknowledging them. An away from of similar slip-ups Briony makes as a grown-up, is the means by which she is envious of her more established cousin at 77 years old, a similar inclination she had as a kid. On page 341, Briony additionally says, â€Å"I’ve consistently been acceptable at not considering the things that are truly disturbing me† (McEwan), which has a similar impact of describing her as untrustworthy. Briony attempts to do great by attempting to make up with the novel she composed, in spite of the fact that on page 340, she says, â€Å"If I truly thought such a great amount about the realities, I ought to have composed an alternate sort of book. Be that as it may, my work was finished. There would be no further drafts† (McEwan 340), which at that point makes it clear to the peruser that Briony’s story can't be trusted. The whole novel is harmed and can't be accepted because of Briony’s inconsistency. In spite of the fact that Briony’s endeavor to offer reparations may appear to be legitimate to a few, it is increasingly sensible to state that McEwan’s epic of Atonement is diminished from the tale of a young lady carrying out a wrongdoing and isolating two darlings, down to the dreamland of Briony Tallis mixed in with certain realities of occasions she saw. The epic acting naturally referential when it is uncovered that Briony composed it so as to arrive at compensation, leaves the peruser with a solid impression of Briony as a truly problematic, egotistical individual, which at that point subverts the whole story.

Apple: the Company’s Visions and Objectives Essay

Apple’s Vision was the Macintosh that was called â€Å"digital hub† that isa mainstream model of PC presented in 1984, that includes a graphical UI ( GUI) that uses windows, symbols, and a mouse to make it moderately simple for amateurs to utilize the PC gainfully. As opposed to learning an intricate arrangement of orders, that wasonly need point to a determination on a menu and snap a mouse button. Also, the GUI is inserted into the working framework. This implies all application that sudden spike in demand for a Macintosh PC have a comparative UI. When a client has gotten comfortable with one application, the individual in question can learn new applications generally without any problem. The accomplishment of the Macintosh GUI proclaimed another time of designs based applications and working frameworks. The Windows interface duplicates numerous highlights from the Mac. That they however could be the favored center point to control coordinate, and increase the value of the gadgets. Likewise to control of both equipment and software.Apple is focused on bringing the best individualized computing experience to understudies, teachers, imaginative experts and purchasers around the globe through its inventive equipment, programming and Internet contributions. Apple’s Mission Was to offer a simple to utilize PC for sale to the public, which drove arrival of the Apple II in 1978. Additionally, Apple is focused on securing nature, wellbeing and security of their workers, clients and the worldwide networks where they work. They can offer mechanically creative items and administrations while saving and improving recourses for people in the future. Goals:The objective was to separate the Macintosh in the midst of serious rivalry in the PC business. What's more, situation, or a condition of solid action, which an association or framework wishes to accomplish or acquire. Objective Is the arrangement, to include and execute moves which must be made to close the hole between the present real factors and the perfect state?Apple structures Macs, the best PCs on the planet, alongside OS, PC CPU, MP3 , iPhone 4, 4s , iPad, and expert programming. Mac drives the computerized music upheaval with its iPods and iTunes online store. Mac has rethought the cell phone with its progressive iPhone and App Store, and has as of late presented iPad which is characterizing the fate of portable media and processing gadgets. Organization Governance:Agency Theory: Was in 1981 when the IBM acquainted the IBM PC with the market that utilized Microsoft’s DOS and a microchip (CPU), by that apple practice coordination and would not permit its equipment to outsiders. However, IBM increased more piece of the overall industry and furthermore rose another for the business more than Apple. That was when apple presented the Macintosh in 1984 that was anything but difficult to use with modern plan and class, however the processor was delayed in speed and that absence of similarity on special, and Apple overall gain fell 62 % between the years 1981 and 1984, and sending the Apple Company into an emergency. That contributed with the activity was constrained out in the 1985 even his called himself as a spirit of the organization. After that the meeting room recruited John Sculley, who was perceived for his advertising abilities. He was in the organization for a long time from 1985 to 1993, who pushed the macintosh in the new market where the Apple was driven by its best programming, such page Market, and fringe with laser printers. Additionally in training Apple got more than haft the market. With that Apple recouped and balanced out around 8% in share around the world, and in 1990 Apple deal $1 billion dollars in real money and was cognized at the most gainful PC organization on the planet. Stewardship Theory: In the long periods of Sculley, the Apple Company offered to the clients a superior proposal by a finished work area arrangement ever that was incorporated equipment, programming, and basically fitting and play. Likewise the organization structuring novel chips, plate drive, and screens. He showed his enthusiasm on the organization achievement. What's more, enthusiasm for customer’s fulfillment, Apple was selling its items at a premium price. This time Macs had more than $10,000, and net benefit around anadvantageous half. Sarbanes â€Oxley: That was applied in the years 2010 and 2011 when the patent wars began with rivalry in the cell phone industry, where everybody sued everybody. Where innovative organizations begindisappears or never gets start. Apple prosecuted against Android, HTC, and Samsung. Likewise Apple turnaround in 1997 when occupations reshape Apple and reported that they would put $ 150 million in Apple and caused five years to create center items, similar to MS Office for the macintosh. By fulfill about 99% of clients and again work wouldn't permit the most recent macintosh. Likewise, the organization 15 product offerings were isolated in just four classes that were work area, compact Macintoshes, for clients and experts. Another improvement that activity did was to enlist Taiwanese agreement to make macintosh items. In this way, in 1998 Apple had a site direct deal just because. Partnership Social Responsibility: Updates on Steve Jobs’ passing sent shockwaves through the innovation business, a world that he, in huge part, molded with his profession. Apple’s officials are currently left with the test of how to lead an organization, whose character has been inseparably connected to Jobs’ for quite a long time. The errand is imposing, particularly when Apple’s fanatically steadfast client base is significantly less sure about what's in store from CEO Tim Cook. That is halfway in light of the fact that Apple’s culture of mystery and Jobs’ perceivability have consolidated to make Cook moderately obscure to people in general on the loose. The vulnerability is exacerbated by the way that previous endeavors to supplant Jobs demonstrated disastrous.Until now, Jobs is by all accounts the just one to have had that exceptional science required for running Apple. What makes driving Apple hard to keep up is the way that the organization isn't selling an item as much as it is a dream, the founder’s vision. Apple items were all around assembled and excellent to take a gander at. As per ongoing media inclusion, doubtlessly Apple is keen on building up another vision, one which incorporates Corporation Social Responsibility. Employments never demonstrated a lot of enthusiasm for open ‘do-gooding.’ He generally kept up that furnishing people in general with the best innovation is worth more than money awards to noble cause. In any case, Cook reported that Apple would grasp another corporate cause coordinating system, utilizing a model a lot of like those of other significant organizations a dollar for dollar coordinate for worker gifts of up to $10,000 every year. Cook unmistakably needs to send the message that Apple is advancing in the manner it sees Corporation Social Responsibility, a significant separating factor among himself and his magnetic antecedent. Nonetheless, the choice inquisitively followed media charges with respect to Apple’s absence of Corporation Social Responsibility exercises, including a New York Times article referenc ing coordinating as an answer utilized by an extensive bit of the Fortune 500 companies.Apple still needs to grasp the fundamental beliefs that make it a â€Å"cool† organization to put it plainly, that possessing an Apple item secure participation in a select gathering. While Apple is maybe past due for a Corporation Social Responsibility technique, the choice to authorize gift coordinating is emphatically not the â€Å"Apple Way. Cook is just reacting to media pressure as opposed to bringing to Corporation Social Responsibility a similar sort of creative and moving vision for which Apple is so exceptionally respected. Also, in such manner, the corporate coordinating project is a fail.Developing a Corporation Social Responsibility methodology around neither a feeling of commitment nor estimation but instead around certain all around characterized character ethics is profoundly viable. Specifically, uprightness, compassion and energy, among others, are basic during times of Uncertaintythey should be very much planned and executed from the inside, out not the reverse way around. Uprightness: Any major hierarchical change is joined by weakness. The change from Jobs’ way to deal with recruiting and terminating will undoubtedly make vulnerability among workers, and in professional workplaces vulnerability definitely makes malicious moving and re-thinking at center administration levels. The new Corporation Social Responsibility activities should introduce both the organization and its new CEO with a one of a kind chance to advance a picture of uprightness and to separate the new authority from that of the Jobs time. Be that as it may, charity is certainly not a decent spot to begin. It should begin from inside, advancing trust and transparency, the inner trustworthiness. Sympathy: Sympathy makes passionate holding between the organization and partners permitting organizations to persevere through a troublesome time. Apple is as of now entangled in claims that are probably going to confine purchaser decisions later on in the event that it continues. Distributers are disappointed by Apple’s hammerlock over applications and magazine memberships on the iPad. There have been signs that Samsung, Apple’s most compromising contender, maddened by patent claims, will at last retaliate to counter sue Apple. While from Apple’s perspective, making legitimate move against contenders may appear to be fundamental as a methods for securing development, popular conclusion works in an unexpected way. For worldwide organizations the legitimate triumph can frequently end with a sort of lose-lose situation, leaving it with a notoriety for presumption and uncertainty. Apple should stress over its notoriety all the mo

Preparing For Your Med School Admission Essay

Preparing For Your Med School Admission EssayWhen students choose the med school to attend, they first have to prepare for the experience of becoming a doctor. They need to learn everything they can about medical education. There are a number of different ways to do this. Some students have the option of submitting their own application, while others may choose to work with a school to help them with their college applications. Some of the most common essay examples that students write are their personal statements. This is the moment when students can be most honest about themselves. They want to be sure that they write about themselves as an individual and not just as a student. If they can, students should make sure to include the experiences and events that have shaped them into the person they are today. One way that many students get around this is to include a paragraph that is a narrative of what they would like to accomplish in the next five years. They can also describe how t hey would like to become a better doctor or anything else that they want to pursue. The second type of essay that students are encouraged to write is their personal statement for GRE. To be competitive, students are required to write an essay on the GRE. In addition to writing a personal statement, they will also need to send a sample of their other essays to the school. The school will look at the sample and determine if it is appropriate for the requirement.Students also have the option of writing articles. Although this is not required, students still consider it to be a great way to show what they have to offer. Students should include sections on their studies, the students' life experiences, or a personal message.Students who are applying to medical schools should include at least one essay on their life experiences. This includes topics such as their background, interests, beliefs, and religious views. Writing about what brings you joy and your goals is a good idea because thi s will show how the student can contribute to the community. The process helps the students to appreciate what they want to do with their lives. Some students are able to submit their own application. However, some schools may have to provide applicants with free sample essays to help them with their applications.

Analysis Of The Play Latins Of La De Land By Migdalia...

Judith Butler argues in Performative Acts and Gender Constitution that gender is created by the act of performance and is constructed through the body. She states â€Å"gender identity is a performative accomplishment compelled by social sanction and taboo† (Butler 416).The concept of the display of gender through the act of performance is perpetuated within the play Latins in La-La Land by Migdalia Cruz specifically through the characters Sid/Rita and Lorenzo. Both of these characters put on gender and take it off throughout the play, through persona and through representative dress. Gender is a historical space and construction which argues that bodies become gendered through a â€Å"legacy of sedimented acts† (Butler 523). The legacy of sedimented acts consists of the habitual performative acts of a person and the build-up of gender norms that produce the outcome of a natural sex. Through this legacy of sedimented acts, gender is reworked within Latins of La-La Land through subversive performing acts by the characters Sid/Rita and Lorenzo. Performance exists first, then gender. Gender does not occur from an internal essence. We as a society, are unable to acknowledge that we’re performing our gender, we believe it’s inherent. Performance is learned by what is already historically dictated as gender and is acted out by the individual through performance of the body. The act of doing one s body comes from history that is shared and developed over time. Butler argues that gender is

Letter To Charles Darwin Essay Evolution Example For Students

Letter To Charles Darwin Essay Evolution Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He was the son of Robert Waring Darwin and his wife Susannah, and the grandson of the scientist Erasmus Darwin. His mother died when he was eight years old, and he was brought up by his sister. He was taught the classics at Shrewsbury, then sent to Edinburgh to study medicine, which he hated. Like many modern students Darwin only excelled in subjects that intrigued him. Although his father was a physician, Darwin was uninterested in medicine and he was unable to stand the sight of surgery. He did eventually obtain a degree in theology from Cambridge University, although theology was of minor interest to him also. What Darwin really liked to do was tramp over the hills, observing plants and animals, collecting new specimens, scrutinizing their structures, and categorizing his findings, guided by his cousin William Darwin Fox, an entomologist. Darwins scientific inclinations were encouraged by his botany professor, John Stevens Henslow , who was instrumental, despite heavy paternal opposition, in securing a place for Darwin as a naturalist on the surveying expedition of HMS Beagle to Patagonia.Under Captain Robert Fitzroy, Darwin visited Tenerife, the Cape Verde Island, Brazil, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Chile, the Galapagos Islands, Tahiti, New Zealand, and Tasmania. In the Cape Verde Island Darwin devised his theory of coral reefs. Another significant stop on the trip was in the Galapagos Islands, it was here that Darwin found huge populations of tortoises and he found that different islands were home to significantly different types of tortoises. Darwin then found that on islands without tortoises, prickly pear cactus plants grew with their pads and fruits spread out over the ground. On islands that had hundreds of tortoises, the prickly pears grew substantially thick, tall trunks, bearing the pads and fruits high above the reach of the tough mouthed tortoises. During this five-year expedition he obtained intima te knowledge of the fauna, flora, and geology of many lands, which equipped him for his later investigations. In 1836, Darwin returned to England after the 5 years with the expedition, and by 1846 he had became one of the foremost naturalists of his time, and he also published several works on the geological and zoological discoveries of his voyage. He developed a friendship with Sir Charles Lyell, became secretary of the Geological Society, a position which Darwin held for four years. In 1839 Darwin married his cousin Emma Wedgwood. But constantly bothering Darwin was the problem of the origin of the species. Darwin sought to prove his ideal of evolution with simple examples. The various breeds of dogs provided a striking example of what Darwin sought to prove. Dogs descended from wolves, and even today the two will readily crossbreed. With rare exceptions, however, few modern dogs actually resemble wolves. Some breeds, such as the Chihuahua and the Great Dane, are so different fro m one another that they would be considered separate species in the wild. If humans could cross breed such radically different dogs in only a few hundred years, Darwin reasoned that nature could produce the same spectrum of living organisms given the hundreds of millions of years that she had been allowed. From 1842 Darwin lived at Down House, a country gentleman among his gardens, conservatories, pigeons, and fowls. The practical knowledge he gained there, especially in variation and interbreeding proved invaluable. At Down House Darwin addressed himself to the great work of his life, the problem of the origin of species. After five years of collecting the evidence, Darwin began to speculate on the subject. In 1842 he drew up his observations in some short notes, expanded in 1844 into a sketch of conclusions for his own use. These conclusions were the principle of natural selection, the germ of the Darwinian Theory, but with typical caution he delayed publication of his hypothesis. However, in 1858 Alfred Wallace sent Darwin a letter of his book, Malay Archipelago, which, to Darwins surprise, contained the main ideas of his own theory of natural selection. Lyell and Joseph Hooker persuaded him to submit a paper of his own, based on his 1844 sketch, which was read simultaneou! sly with Wallaces before the Linnean Society in 1858. Neither Darwin nor Wallace was present on that historic occasion.Darwin then set to work to condense his vast mass of notes, and put into shape his great work, The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life, published in 1859. This great work, received throughout Europe with the deepest interest, was violently attacked because it did not agree with the account of creation given in the Book of Genesis. But eventually it succeeded in obtaining recognition from almost all biologists.Darwin, contrary to popular belief, never said that human beings evolved from apes. He sai d that all life began as a primordial soup, with molecules acting on each other. So from the first single celled organism all life came. One single organism, when acted on by several different molecules could give rise to many different species of animals. It is in this way that he stated that Ape and man were similareach having a similar lifes beginning. Darwin died after a long illness, leaving eight children, several of whom achieved great distinction. Though not the sole originator of the evolution hypotheses, or even the first to apply the concept of descent to plants and animals, Darwin was the first distinction thinker to gain for that theory a wide acceptance among biological experts. By adding to the crude evolutionism of Erasmus Darwin, Lamarck, and others, his own specific idea of natural selection, Darwin supplied a sufficient cause, which raised it from a hypothesis to a verifiable theory. Joints and Body Movements Essay Example

Joints and Body Movements Paper Purpose: What is the purpose of this exercise? In this exercise I will exam how joints function and thereby discover how they allow for movement in the body. Joints are where two bones come together. The joints hold the bones together and allow for movement of the skeleton. All of the bones, except the hyoid bone in the neck, form a joint. Joints are often categorized by the amount of motion they allow. Some of the joints are fixed, like those in the skull, allow for no movement. Other joints, like those between the vertebrae of the spine, allow for some movement. Most of the joints are free moving synovial joints. In this exercise I will exam how joints function and thereby discover how they allow for movement in the body. Are there any safety concerns associated with this exercise? If so, list what they are and what precautions should be taken. Basic lab precautions, including keep a clean workspace and washing your hand when dealing with raw poultry. In order to ensure that this occurs layout the equipment beforehand in a clean sterile environment and follow safe work practices. Exercise 1: Questions A. These sutures also allow the skull to grow rapidly during the first year of life, at which time the bones start to slowly fuse together. This allows the skull to continue to protect the skull during early development. B. Why are synarthroses an important component of fibrous joints? These joints are weight bearing and the joints provide stability and cushioning. Synarthrotic joint is to provide a stable union between bony surfaces. The suture and synchondrosis actually become more stable when ossification of the joint takes place. Exercise 2: Questions A. Cartilaginous joints exhibit amphiarthroses. Why is this important? Amphiarthroses provides an articulation between bony surfaces that permits limited motion and is connected by ligaments or elastic cartilage, such as that between the vertebrae. B. Structurally, how are cartilaginous joints similar? Cartilaginous joints are connected entirely by cartilage. Cartilaginous joints allow more movement between bones than a fibrous joint but less than the highly mobile synovial joint. Cartilaginous joints also form the growth regions of immature long bones and the intervertebral discs of the spinal column. Exercise 3: Questions A. Which type of synovial joint has the least amount of movement? Plane joints permit sliding or gliding movements in the plane of articular surfaces. The opposed surfaces of the bones are flat or almost fat, with movement limited by their tight joint capsules. B. Why are diarthroses important for synovial joints? Diarthrosis permits a variety of movements. All diarthrosis joints are synovial joints and the terms diarthrosis and synovial joint are considered equivalent. C. Which synovial joint is most movable? A ball and socket joint is a joint in which the distal bone is capable of motion around an indefinite number of axes, which have one common center. It enables the bone to move in a 360Â ° angle. D. What are the four structural characteristics that all synovial joints share? Synovial joints all have synovial fluid, articular cartilage, articular capsule, synovial membrane, capsular ligaments, blood vessels, and sensory nerves. Exercise 4: Questions A. Which of the body movements was the most difficult to perform? Why? Inversion which is a gliding joint and provides little movement. B. Hinge joints like the elbow and knee have limited movement. Why are these types of joints more prone to injury? Hinge joints in the elbow and knee contain a lot of anatomical structures packed into a tiny space and when challenged with heavy and constant use, it thus especially prone to injury and infection. C. When performing flexion on the arm, the biceps muscle (on the anterior of the arm) contracts. What happens to the triceps muscle (on the posterior of the arm) as this action is performed? As you perform flexion on your arm the triceps muscle relaxes. D. Both the shoulder and the hip are ball and socket joints. Why does the shoulder have a greater range of motion than the hip? The muscles and joints of the shoulder allow it to move through a remarkable range of motion, making it the most mobile joint in the human body. The shoulder can abduct, adduct rotate, be raised in front of and behind the torso and move through a full 360Â ° in the sagittal plane. Exercise 5: Observations Sketch your chicken wing: Label the bones, muscles, tendons and joints. Exercise 5: Questions A. What effect will the tearing of a tendon have on its corresponding muscle? The corresponding muscle will shrink due to the decreased activity tendon. This is because when the tendon is torn the area around the tendon will not be in very much use until the tendon is repaired which can take a good while unless professionally handled. The muscle will go back to its original size once the tendon heals and the muscle is used more. B. Why are ligaments harder to heal than tendons? Tendons heal faster than ligaments. The reason is that tendons are connected to the muscle, which will allow them to receive a larger blood flow. Ligaments are connected to bone which supplies less blood. Blood is the key -what carries nutrients in order to repair the tissue. C. Compare and contrast tendons and ligaments. Ligaments connect bone to bone and tendons connect bone to muscle. D. What is the function of fascia? It is responsible for maintaining structural, provides support and protection, and acts as a shock absorber. The function of muscle fasciae is to reduce friction to minimize the reduction of muscular force. Fasciae: a) Provide a sliding and gliding environment for muscles. b)Suspend organs in their proper place. c) Transmit movement from muscles to bones, and d) Provide a supportive and movable wrapping for nerves and blood vessels as they pass through and between muscles. [ E. What effect would the loss of articular cartilage have on a joint, its bones and their corresponding muscles? It causes the breakdown of the cartilage in joints. It also called degenerative arthritis. Cartilage is the joints cushion. It covers the ends of bones and allows free movement. If it becomes rough, frays, or wears away, bones grind against each other. As a result, the joint becomes irritated and inflamed. Sometimes the irritation causes abnormal bone growths, called spurs, which increase swelling. Conclusions Explain how skin, bones, and muscles are related to each other. Why is this relationship important to the understanding of the skeletal and muscular systems? Joints are where two bones come together. The joints hold the bones together and allow for movement of the skeleton. All of the bones, except the hyoid bone in the neck, form a joint. Joints are often categorized by the amount of motion they allow. Some of the joints are fixed, like those in the skull, allow for no movement. Other joints, like those between the vertebrae of the spine, allow for some movement. Most of the joints are free moving synovial joints.

What would you do essays

What would you do essays What would you do, or how would you feel, if a man of middle-eastern descent came up to you telling you that he had been a victim of a hate crime where he was attacked from behind, beaten and pelted with eggs while his assailants uttered racial epithets, but later was notified that it was all a lie, a hoax? Well, there was a person that had to deal with this dilemma. Arizona State University junior Ahmad Sadd Nasim performed this gruesome act, and now the Maricopa Attorney's Office, and the ASU disciplinary department, must decide whether or not to press charges on this act of pusillanimity. It is believed by many that Nasim should face charges in order to allow true victims of hate crimes to come forward without shame, prevent a rise in hate crimes, and also prevent further acts of this nature. In order to allow the victims of true hate crimes to identify themselves without fear of not being heard, or believed, Ahmad Saad Nasim should be prosecuted. If he is not prosecuted, the victims of future hate crimes may not choose to come forward. Furthermore, these victims would find it nothing more than a waste of their time if they tried to report the perpetrators. Senior Vikesh Desai said," the lie hurts victims of genuine hate crimes." He continues, "It's like the boy who cried wolf. Now if another person is attacked in a hate crime, more people are going to question it. People are going to be afraid to speak up because they'll think that people won't believe them." (Chiu 1). However, if Nasim is prosecuted, and convicted, this type of situation would not be a problem. Consequently, the number of hate crimes committed will decline. The chance of an increase in the number of hate crimes committed relies partially on whether or not the Maricopa County Attorney's Office decides to press charges on Nasim. The number of performed hate crimes could rise if Nasim is not prosecuted for his wrong-doings. People that are prejudi...

How Significant Was Kevin Rudd's Apology to the Stolen Generations Essay

How Significant Was Kevin Rudd's Apology to the Stolen Generations - Essay Example It was a very strong political expression that the country expressed towards the acknowledgement of fundamental human rights. The apology statement had very relevant political and social implications on Australia and the outlook of the country towards its indigenous populations. These implications stretch beyond the geographical boundaries of the country as the issue was discussed by the civil society all across the world. The objective of this essay is to analyze the significance of Kevin Rudd’s Apology to the Stolen Generations. Background of the apology The apology was a political statement which had been awaited for many years. Indigenous children and children of Torres Strait Islanders were forcefully separated from their families by the Australian government. The justification that the Australian government had for this act was the desired objective of upward social mobility and exposure of these children to the predominant modernized culture of Australia (Haebich, 2011) . These children were later referred to as the ‘Stolen Generation’. An enquiry commission The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, headed by Mick Dodson and Sir Ronald Wilson, was setup to undertake the â€Å"National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their Families† (Haebich, 2011 p. 1033). ... 1033). The expression ‘Lost Generation’ is justified by the large percentage of children who were deprived of their parents and living systems. The report shed light to disturbing facts that these children were unhappy in the foster homes, institutions and adoptive families they were put in (Haebich, 2011, p. 1033). The report also contained evidence of forced labor imposed upon these children. The extensive interviews, conducted by the enquiry commission, observed consequences of separation which included medical and psychological issues, addiction, violence, self harm and even suicides (Haebich, 2011). In light of all these observations there was pressure on the Australian government both from within the country and human rights movements across the world. Moreover, out of the 54 recommendations made by The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission, one was that the Australian government must apologize to the stolen generation (Haebich, 2011). Since then, this has been a matter of political debate for all the governments which came to power in Australia. In other words, the apology was much awaited by the world. The Political Importance of the Apology The decision of Kevin Rudd to apologize to the Stolen Generation has its importance as a strong political expression. It must be noted here that after the report thoroughly asserting the need of the apology was published, it was denied for 11 long years. No governments owned up the moral responsibility towards the Stolen Generation and the human rights violations faced by them. The general Australian response to the report was that the observations were inflammatory (Haebich, 2011, p. 1033). There was also

Fuller Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Fuller - Assignment Example Nonetheless, one is likely to think that Fuller still believes that being a young person between the ages of thirty and forty-nine and a General at the same is a military virtue in and of itself. Most of the attributes described above are best exhibited by persons who are not only young at heart but persons who are also young physically. For example, all these attributes and more were exhibited by George Washington. At the time he became a General, he fell within the age bracket that Fuller sets in his appendix. In fact, it seems to be the case that his youth really helped him attain military success. It is on record that he exhibited certain actions that may best be described to the consequence of the ‘hot blood’ of a young person. Washington went to the  Second Continental Congress dressed in a military uniform. This was an indication of his preparedness for war (Rasmussen and Tilton, 1999. P. 294). It was this mindset that he became a general. Although he lost many of his battles, George Washington never surrendered in the course of any. In spite of the fact that Fuller does not generally directly postulate that being as young as Washington was a military v irtue in and of itself, using Washington as a case study, it seems to be the truth. The General-ship of Alexander, the Great is indeed another example that may prove that military success and age are closely knit. As the son and successor of a great politician and king, Phillip II of Macedonia, the course of Alexander’s life seems to have been set since he was much younger. He became the ruler of his land when he was just twenty years old. When he became king, he also inherited the army. Alexander, the Great is said to have never lost a battle (Roisman and Worthington, Chapter 9, p. 192). He was known for his use of bold tactics, cavalry strategies, terrain, and the effective deployment of his loyalty

Religious Toleration during the Enlightenment Essay -- Enlightenment of

The Enlightenment of the 18th century evolved due to the many changes brought about by the Scientific Revolution. With all of the new scientific discoveries, new thought processes were developed. The scientists of the Scientific Revolution brought about revolutionary change. These scientists inspired the philosophes of the Enlightenment to challenge the ways of the "Old Regime" and question the ideas of the church. Philosophers such as Francois Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and John Locke published their controversial ideas and these ideas along with some important political action, helped to mold a new type of society. The new society was one that tolerated different religious beliefs. "The minds of men, abandoning the old disciplines and contentions of theology, turned to what they called "natural philosophy," namely, the faith in individual reason rather than in divine revelation; they welcomed the excitement offered by the ever widening opportunities for discovery and commerce and by the prospect of immeasurable progress owing to the inventions of science and technology and the spread of education."1 Religious toleration during the Age of Enlightenment was ultimately affected by changes in the Roman Catholic Church, the politics of the 18th century, and the philosophy movement. Enlightenment was a term, which was used to describe a new philosophy of life. "It was a time when man, stepping, out of his shackles, began to use his rational facilities †¦ and shoved aside the state and church authorities."2 Individuals began to rely on their own instincts in order to realize that there were certain civil liberties that should be provided to them, that they were not receiving. Religious freedom was one of these civil liberties.... ...f Church and State destroyed many monarchies and permitted democracy. 1 Nicolson, Harold.
